Intermezzo: A Love Story (1939)
Tagline: “Let the world cry ‘shame’…I love him…I’ll always love him!”
Who’s In It? Leslie Howard (Pygmalion), Ingrid Bergman (Notorious)
Who’s It For? This movies punishes the characters and the viewer equally. I don’t recommend it to anyone.
On second thought, it reminded me of Brief Encounter, and fans of that movie might enjoy it.
What’s It About? An innocent young pianist falls into an affair with a married violinist. via TCM.com
Best line: I wonder if anyone has built happiness on the unhappiness of others.
How Romantic Is It? I don’t find adultery to be particularly romantic and this movie dwells on the guilt and horrific consequences too much to be anything but unpleasant.

Grimm’s Snow White also came out this year. It’s a horror movie but still…

Rita Hayworth & Fred Astaire, photographed for You Were Never Lovelier (1942)
I really liked Hayworth in this movie. Incredibly fluffy movie.
